Maya Ragazzo (b. 1994) is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Los Angeles and is known working in a range of mediums including drawing, photograms, stop-motion animation, oil painting, printmaking, and photography. After graduating with a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of in 2016, Maya has built a career in niche professions, working as a CNC operator, a professional 1:87 scale model maker, a chandelier builder, and an improvised experimental stop-motion animator. She often collaborates with musicians to bring their visual concepts to life. In 2024, Maya received the Anthropologie x YoungArts Leading with Creativity award, granting her the opportunity to design, manufacture, and sell an apparel line through Anthropologie's curated online marketplace.
In her personal artistic endeavors, Maya’s work delves into the intricacies of the human spirit, mysticism, and isolated interactions. Drawing inspiration from folk art, Egyptian hieroglyphs, and early stop-motion animation -- she curates a distinctive collection of recurring characters and motifs that resonate with the shared threads of human existence. Maya's upcoming series aims to explore the nuanced landscape of the human psyche, providing a visually comforting space for navigating the complexities of the mind and the subtleties of madness. Maya currently works out of her garage studio in Los Angeles.
